On Decision Day for marriage equality, the day that the US Supreme Court issues its ruling on the marriage cases before it, meet at the National Constitution Center at 12noon and then on the lawn at Independence Mall at 5pm, in front of Independence Hall, and be ready for a daylong rally hosted by the HRC and endorsed by Delaware Valley Americans United, The Summit Coalition, and many other local LGBT and civil rights groups! THIS TAKES PLACE TODAY! Come to Philly now!
According to Americans United, “[i]n Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court is considering whether the Constitution requires states to (1) issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, and (2) recognize out-of-state marriages between such couples.” The DECISION DAY IS TODAY, Friday, June 26. The Decision Day events will take place on the same day that the Supreme Court ruling is issued, today, Friday 6/26. So be ready! Philadelphians (and all locals!) are asked to attend a review of the opinion on the big screen at the National Constitution Center at 12noon. Snacks will be served. From noon to 5pm, the NCC’s Speaking Out for Equality exhibit is free and open to the public. Later, from 5pm-7pm, gather on the lawn of Independence Mall, near Independence Hall, for a rally with speakers from several groups. Click here to RSVP via Facebook. 10:00 AM (approximately): Decision handed down.
12 Noon- 1PM: Join the National Constitution Center for light snacks, review of the opinion, large screen media coverage, large screen Twitter feed.
Community welcome to come to discuss/engage with the Court’s decision.
12 Noon- 5PM: Speaking Out For Equality exhibit open free to the public.
5PM-7PM: #DecisionDay Rally on the lawn of Independence Mall on the block bounded by Market, 5th Street, Arch Street, and 6th Street. This is the block directly south of the Constitution Center and closer to Independence Hall.
