I have a few issues to share.
CLERGY ADVISORY: The Delaware Valley Chapter of Americans United is assembling a clergy advisory board for the purpose of incorporating a religious perspective to our endeavors. We already have a Unitarian and Methodist minister involved but we wanted to build a broader base that includes additional religions. If you know of a clergy member who you think may be supportive of our cause please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WINTER GALA CONCERT: I want to invite you to our Gala Winter Concert and Fundraiser. The event will be held at the beautiful and historic Ethical Society Building on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia on Saturday, December 17 (see dvau.org for details). We are featuring classical pianist Laurent Levy. His performance will be followed by a wine and cheese social. For the connoisseurs among us, DVAU board member Ellen Greenfield will be taking charge of the wine and cheese selections. You may remember our last fundraiser when Ellen assembled an ambrosially luscious collection of complimentary wines and cheeses. Don’t miss this entertaining, fun, and worthwhile event!
PRESIDENT’S POST: On a more cerebral note, I’ve been posting a regular blog called “President’s Post” which can be found on dvau.org. Presently, I’m in the middle of a series on debunking common church/state myths. My first installment addressed the myth that the words “separation of church and state” do not appear in our nation’s constitution. The second myth I addressed was a common religious fundamentalist refrain that liberals have removed God from the public square. My latest installment, which appears tomorrow, will deflate the myth that the U.S. is a Christian nation. I look forward to your comments.
ONE LAST NOTE: Many of the most important social issues facing our nation today like marriage and reproductive rights, school vouchers, prayer in schools and creationism in the classroom are church/state issues. Our organization is actively engaged in all of these issues and many more I haven’t mentioned. In fact, we are the only organization devoting 100% of our energies and resources to church/state issues. Please consider supporting our cause with a donation at dvau.org or by becoming involved in our activities.
