Have you ever been to a social event, or maybe church, and heard someone say something that you knew to be wrong but you just weren’t prepared to make a reasoned response? When you hear people say they believe America is a Christian nation or say something like “aint no way I’m gonna let them teach my kid we evolved from monkeys” are you able to make an intelligent response? If you’re like me, knowing about a subject is not the same as being able to speak about it.
At our next chapter meeting we’re going to have a little fun and maybe learn something along the way. Here’s what I have in mind. I’m going to present a sampling of commonly held myths about church/state separation. Playing the role of rabid anti-separationist, I’ll defend these myths against all reasonable arguments from the audience.
Besides the Christian nation and anti-evolution myths, we will also address: We don’t have separation of church and state in America because those words are not in the Constitution; The separation of church and state has resulted in God being kicked out of the public square; The Ten Commandments are the Foundation of American Law; and School Vouchers are good.
Here’s a chance to polish your separationist skills and have a good time as well.
The meeting will be held at: Doylestown Public Library, Thursday, July 12 at 7:00 pm.
Hope to see you there!
