DVAU/Bucks Bimonthly meeting, Barbara Cohen: William Penn’s Legacy, May 9, 2013

The Bucks County Committee of Delaware Valley Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State (DVAU) will meet at the Jenkintown Library on the 2nd Thursday of every other month. Please join us for informational speakers and news about church-state issues in our area.

On Thursday, May 9 at 7:00 pm, Barbara Cohen will be speaking at the Jenkintown Library, 460 Old York Rd, Jenkintown, PA 19064.  Barbara will be speaking on “William Penn’s Legacy” focusing on his contributions to church/state separation. Penn was an early advocate of separation and argued against the intrusion of civil power into the realm of religious conscience. Barbara’s talk will also illustrate how the beliefs of religious groups influenced the design of their religious architecture as a “bricks & mortar” statement of those beliefs.

Barbara is a long-time volunteer tour guide for the Friends of Independence National Park and the Foundation for Architecture and a candidate for public.  She currently serves as President of the Schuylkill River Heritage Center, and on the Boards of the Wharton Esherick Museum and the Green Space Alliance.
