DVAU/Philly: Fran Pierce, “Religion in the Classroom”

The March 2011 meeting of Delaware Valley Americans United chapter’s Philadelphia Committee will take place on Thursday March 24 at 7pm in the Skyline Room on the 4th floor of the Parkway Central Library in Philadelphia PA, at 19th and Vine Streets (between 19th and 20th Streets on the Ben Franklin Parkway).

DVAU welcomes Fran Pierce, who will lead a talk on religion in the classroom and distribute an informative handbook to all attendees. She will discuss a local issue concerning an evangelical Christian group’s efforts to control the human sexuality classes at a nearby public school. As always, this DVAU meeting is free and open to the public. Wheelchair-accessible; all attendees should take the elevator to the 4th floor to the Skyline Room. There is a pay-to-park lot on Callowhill Street behind the library, and this location is accessible via SEPTA.


Temple University Debate: Separation of Church and State, March 28 2011

Announcing a public debate on the topic of church-state separation, between Ed Joyce and Janice Rael of Delaware Valley Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and Peg Luksik and another member of the Center for American Heritage. The moderator is Professor Mark Rahdert from Temple Law School. Debate hosted by the Temple ACLU and Temple Libertarians.

The Delaware Valley Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, DVAU, is hosting its Second Annual Church/State Issues Symposium. The daylong event will take place in the beautiful and fitting National Constitution Center. The symposium will focus on issues surrounding church/state separation. Speakers include academics, clergy, constitutional attorneys, and government officials. Our Keynote Speaker is the Reverend Barry Lynn, the Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. DVAU tabling at Equality Forum: On Sunday May 1st from 12noon to 7pm, visit the Delaware Valley Americans United table at Equality Forum’s SundayOUT! at The Piazza, North 2nd Street & Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. $10 Adults, $5 Students. DVAU is tabling at the region’s largest LGBT street festival, which takes place at Philadelphia’s chic Italian-inspired open-air plaza in Northern Liberties. DVAU’s Philadelphia meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 12, at 7pm, at the Parkway Central Library, 19th and Vine Streets in Philadelphia, will be on the subject of marriage equality and how the fight for equal rights for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgendered (LGBT) people falls under the church-state umbrella, featuring speakers from the ACLU-PA and Equality Pennsylvania.
