A message from DVAU President Ed Joyce:
The next Bucks County meeting of the Delaware Valley Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church & State will be held Tuesday, September 7, 7:00 pm, at the Doylestown Library located at 150 S. Pine St., Doylestown, Pa 18901.
We will begin the meeting with a review of chapter activity followed by a discussion of recent church/state issues in the news. Then we will view the second in a four part video lecture series on religious liberties. The title of the video lecture is “School Prayer and the Establishment Clause.” The 30 minute presentation will be made by John E. Finn, professor of Government at Wesleyan University, and an internationally recognized expert on constitutional law. The presentation will be followed by a discussion.
For those interested in the NJ charter schools/voucher issue, DVAU is sponsoring a panel discussion “The Trouble with Tuition Tax Credits” on Tuesday, September 14 at 7:00 pm at the Katz Jewish Community Center, Room 206, 1301 Springdale Rd, Cherry Hill , NJ 08002. Check our website dvau.org for more details.
Also, I’ll be speaking at the Dissent in America Forum on “The Evolution Debate and its Church/State Implications” on Sept. 17 at 3:30 pm, 821 Anderson Hall on the Temple University Campus.
Later in the month we will be holding our first center city Philadelphia meeting on Sept. 23, 7:00 pm, at the Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine St. in the Skyline Room. At this meeting Attorney Paul Grosswald will speak. Grosswald specializes in civil rights cases and was involved in a landmark Supreme Court case involving the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in a public school. Paul recently spoke at a Bucks County chapter meeting and his talk was very well received.
